West Ham reportedly show firm interest in Arsenal player ‘with great speed’

West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur are among the clubs interested in signing Ainsley Maitland-Niles from Arsenal in the summer transfer window, according to The Sun.

It has been reported by the British tabloid that Arsenal have put up Maitland-Niles for sale this summer and are hoping to get £30 million as transfer fee.

Tottenham have registered their interest in the versatile 22-year-old, while West Ham, Crystal Palace and Fulham have also shown ‘a firm interest’ in the Englishman, who was hailed by head coach Mikel Arteta in Football.London in January 2020, with the Spaniard saying that he is “a very useful player with great speed, technically gifted, a good passer of the ball”.

Stats

According to WhoScored, Maitland-Niles made 15 starts and five substitute appearances in the Premier League for Arsenal this past season, providing two assists in the process.

The 22-year-old – who can operate as a midfielder, winger, full-back or wing-back – also made four starts and two substitute appearances in the Europa League for the Gunners, and played five times in the FA Cup and scored one goal in one EFL Cup tie in 2019-20, according to WhoScored.

Leaving Arsenal

If Arsenal have decided to sell Maitland-Niles, then it is likely that he will not be at the Emirates Stadium next season.

While it is hard to see the 22-year-old cross the North London divide and move to Tottenham, a switch to West Ham would make sense, given his versatility to play in a number of positions and the Hammers’ need for a new right-back and probably a young midfielder.

Hammers and Brighton chase 'New Xavi' Monchu

According to The Sunday Mirror (print edition, page 64, August 9, 2020), West Ham United, Juventus and Brighton and Hove Albion are interested in signing Monchu from Barcelona in the summer transfer window.

It has been reported that West Ham and Brighton want to sign the 20-year-old midfielder on a season-long loan deal, while Italian giants Juventus have had an offer of £18 million plus £8 million in extras turned down by Barcelona.

Valencia, Real Betis and Real Sociedad are also interested in the youngster, according to the report, which has added that Barcelona are willing to send him out on loan under certain conditions.

According to the report, the Spanish and European powerhouse want the 20-year-old midfielder’s wages to be paid in full by the club signing him on a season-long loan deal.

The club will also have to make the deal permanent for £36 million in the summer of 2021, and Barcelona will have a two-year buyback clause as well.

Complicated deal?

Monchu is a very talented footballer who has done well for the Barcelona B team, but he does not have first-team experience.

While a season-long loan deal would be great for West Ham, if the Hammers have to commit to paying £36 million next summer, then the London club should think carefully.

Free agent’s options could be limited to West Ham and Crystal Palace

Ryan Fraser’s options could be limited to West Ham United and Crystal Palace, according to The Sun.

Fraser is a free agent at the moment following his departure from Bournemouth earlier this summer.

The Sun has claimed that Palace have offered the winger a weekly salary of £50,000, while West Ham are also interested in securing the services of the Scotland international on a free transfer.

The report in the British tabloid has stated that Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are not planning to make a move for the free agent this summer, having been interested in him in the summer of 2019.

Stats

According to WhoScored, Fraser made 21 starts and seven substitute appearances in the Premier League for Bournemouth this past season, scoring one goal and providing four assists in the process.

The 26-year-old Scotland international winger made 35 starts and three substitute appearances in the league for the Cherries in 2018-19, scoring seven goals and providing 14 assists in the process, according to WhoScored.

Meanwhile, The Sun has reported that Palace are not willing to pay more than £10 million for Eberechi Eze, with Queens Park Rangers looking for £20 million.

Southampton in race to sign West Ham’s Grady Diangana

West Ham United youngster Grady Diangana is attracting plenty of attention this summer, with the Sunday People (9/8; page 61) reporting that Southampton, Crystal Palace and Leicester City want the attacker.

Diangana goes into next season off the back of an inspired loan spell at West Brom. He scored eight goals and contributed six assists as the Baggies sealed automatic-promotion.

The Sunday People reports that David Moyes wants to keep Diangana. But there are a number of sides reportedly monitoring the 22-year-old.

The People claims that the Saints, Palace and the Foxes want Diangana, who is valued at £15 million.

TBR View: Diangana could be key player for West Ham next season

It will disappoint a lot of fans if West Ham sell Diangana this summer. The Irons only had one player reach double figures for league goals this past season.

The likes of Felipe Anderson, Manuel Lanzini and Pablo Fornals only managed three goals between them. So it would be a big gamble to sell Diangana.

Replacing him for anything around £15 million would be incredibly difficult. He may not yet be the finished article, but he arguably has the potential to play a key role next season.

It would therefore, prove a controversial decision should they leave the door open for the likes of Southampton, Palace or Leicester to make a move.

Same thing with Diangana. His agent knows he is going back to West Ham and so throws the Soton link out there so the boy comes back to a pay rise.

He will almost certainly get it too.

Naitland-Miles is a good player and has a good future ahead of him but:

1) £30m??!!??
2) Arsenal would not sell him - Clearly agent talk to get his player a rise.

Why do Arsenal want to sell him? I find that a bit odd.

Transfermkt have Maitland Miles down as £13m. And their valuations are generally generous to the seller.

From the little I have seen he looks decent for sure. Possibly worth a £10m bid if we can sell Fredericks for £5m. I'm making this up as much as Arsenal!
